Question 2: Can I join the Collective?
The Collective currently consists of a core group of 5 people who work together in putting together the presentations for churches and other organisations. In addition to our core Collective members, we do like to include other people in our events who can partner with us creatively in our presentations. This might include, for example, asking a church drama group to offer a piece on the theme of Africa, bringing in some African musicians, or asking other musicians and artists from our host venue to contribute and perform creative items. We like to include others in creative ways in our work, and to inspire others to use their own creativity to bring about justice and change in our world.
Question 3: In what sense is the Brightstar Collective a Christian organization?
The Brightstar Collective does have a distinct Christian identity and purpose, our ‘tag-line’ being ‘harnessing the power of creativity to effect change and promote the cause of Christ’. What we mean by ‘promote the cause of Christ’ is seeking to promote those causes which we believe Christ Himself would promote and support; causes which seek to bring justice and hope to communities and which seek to help and empower those on the margins of society. There is definitely a spiritual element to what we do, which hopefully comes across in our songs and in our visuals. We are not seeking to ’convert’ or preach to people, but we do hope that people will leave our presentations with a feeling of being connected in some way with God and the spiritual through our music and creativity.
We are aware that many creative people of other faiths, or none, have a passion for social justice and action. We are always open to others joining us on our journey who have a compatibility with our values and purpose, regardless of personal belief.... more
